The first time Trini Lopez met Frank Sinatra in person, Sinatra extended his hand and said, “Trini you’re a great talent.” It was a dream come true for Lopez who had idolized Sinatra since childhood.
Lopez grew up in the barrio of Dallas, Texas. Born to Mexican immigrant parents, he knew a rough life in a rough neighborhood. He was hanging around a very rough crowd, defying his father and earning Lopez a punishment which would change the trajectory of his life. Feeling badly for having spanked his son, Lopez’ father bought him a $12 guitar the family could ill afford and taught his son Mexican folk songs to encourage a more wholesome activity. The young Lopez was enthralled and began playing with small groups.
Singing on street corners, around bars and cantinas, Lopez developed a fan following and by high school was popular enough to be contributing to the household finances. In the summers
